Maryland State Police have launched an investigation in Baltimore County after city resident Denzel Butcher, 31, was killed and a 28-year-old man was hospitalized in a two-vehicle crash that was reported on I-95.

At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, police say that troopers were called to the southbound lanes of I-95 near Chesaco Avenue, when a Nissan Altima was possibly disabled and rear-ended by the truck driver, according to state police officials.

Butcher was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The driver and a passenger in the tractor-trailer were unharmed.

Following the fatal crash, lanes were closed on I-95 for approximately five hours as police investigated and cleared the scene.
